The Meaning of Filo was produced almost entirely through community support. Knowing that we would have little money to work with, we enlisted the help of the neighborhood to acquire everything from locations to props and costumes. While storyboarding, we scouted for locations and eventually found everything we needed – all in our neighborhood. With the exception of one scene that was shot in the basement of a local church, all the interiors and exteriors were shot within the confines of one city block. About half the film was shot in my own apartment and the rest was shot in various locations of San Francisco’s Bush Street, between Jones and Leavenworth. It was truly an amazing experience to have the community supporting us every step of the way.
